Two weeks from now, I'll be in Amsterdam for a week and Berlin for three weeks. Any suggestions for what I should see or do while in either place? (I was definitely going to go back to the Van Gogh museum, but that's about the only definite plan I have thus far.)

I should write up a 'state of the moof' post, too; it's been a while.

It's been a very long time since I've been to Amsterdam, but the zoo (ARTIS) was lovely if you like them, and as a bonus had poffertjes. The Rijksmuseum is a block from the Van Gogh museum and is also amazing. I don't recall if you drink alcohol, but if so, Wynand Focking is delightful, both for the the historic tasting room and for the the opportunity to buy a bottle or two of liqueurs to take home. The Tropenmuseum (Tropics museum) was fascinating but I recall it striking me as fairly unapologetically colonialist 15 years ago, so it may not have aged well.

Amsterdam is so pretty and has such nice architecture and parks and public art and mostly wonderful museums that I could spend several weeks just walking around admiring it and going into any museum that my path crossed.

My hotel is about a five minute walk from the Van Gogh museum and the Rijksmuseum; I plan on doing quite a lot of just wandering around the area.

I'll have to try the Wynand place, although I'm more of a beer person than liqueur.
