Every time I look at something that looks vaguely off in our new-to-us house, I find five other things that are screwy and almost inevitably voice "What the FUCK were they thinking?"; this has occupied an awful lot of my time as of late, in between insomnia or hypersomnia.

*hugs* That's, unfortunately, pretty much the normal case for home ownership, even if it's just the hideous dark green paint they used to paint the attic, that _nothing_ will cover (and, of course, it wasn't just that).

"hideous green paint" I can deal with; "a morass of telephone wiring that's stuck to the wall with caulk and which I thought was a wasp nest at first", less so. I fear we're gonna have to rip out an awful lot of the wiring. And maybe some of the flooring.

Heh. Well - there's also the window where they replaced a quarter of the glass with caulk - the neighbour whose front window was held up with spray foam, the procyon lotor nest... but that's all just to say -- empathies! Houses, especially ones with previous 'creative' owners are full of surprises, usually not good ones.
